Cyberspace opens the human race up to a whole new world and place of new and exciting things from all over the globe. As seen in image one above, the world map shows the rule of law in cyberspace covered all over it. That is because the world of cyberspace is plastered all over the world and whether we like it or not cyberspace is pretty much essential for the human race to live these days as also said in one of the week 4 readings Passages of the Cyber-Flaneur "cyberspace is an alternative geography that needs to be seen, witnessed, and experienced in order to exist" (Barnes, 1997). Cyberspace may sound like a perfect dimension and a place many would like to explore, but like many intriguing things they have their dangers and flaws.
Barnes says the "There is no limits to the exploration in cyberspace because it has no fixed boundaries in time or space" (Barnes, 1997) , while that may be true there is one massive flaw to that theory. The biggest flaw in cyberspace is that while many countries on Earth have access to the internet and therefore the vastitude of cyber space, some countries don't and that is where we have what is known as gaps in the cyber map. Places like russia where the internet is censored, Africa and other poor countries do not have access to the internet and therefore do not have the technology to access and explore cyber space. Imagine if these countries had access to the internet and were able to share their knowledge and opinions about everything? Cyberspace would become so much more immense and so much more unexplored and untouched links and passages would emerge.
Cyberspace and the internet are very powerful weapons and with great power comes great responsibility and while travelling through cyberspace and using the internet, users need to be extremely careful with how they use it and what they share. An example of this is Facebook. Facebook, along with other social media apps can reach people all around the world. This means nothing that we choose to post on these websites is secret regardless of whether or not your account is private or not. There is no telling where statuses, posts and photos may end up, these things travel all over the map and are therefore easily viewable from people from all over the world.
One of the newer features on facebook is facebook live. This feature allows users to live stream anything whether it be an important event, a natural disaster or personal events etc. Anyone can live stream to people all over the world and you can see that from the below image where it shows people from different countries watching. The map also shows the 'dead areas' where internet is unaccessible.
The youtube link below gives a good insight on how easy it is for users to view anyones live stream from anywhere in the world. This in itself shows just how powerful the internet and cyberspace really is and how easy it is to access any kind of information you want or need to know.
Flaneurs theory of cyberspace and the endless amount of files and data that consist within it along with the 'map' shine an even brighter light on the infinite possibilities and exciting areas that are yet to be explored and researched. While cyberspace is already so limitless and huge as stated before the cyber map and cyberspace still has so much more to offer and has the opportunity to grow to new places. The internet and the idea of cyberspace is still very new and it has the possibility to turn into something amazing or something dangerous. That being the case, it is up to the human race to explore cyber space carefully and with respect of each others privacy and desires to avoid any harm that may come from visiting this amazing and practically unexplored map.
