The online site that is Crunchyroll is an American based distributor, publisher and an international online community that is focused on a video format that is known as Anime. For those that don't know, Anime is an East Asian media. However the site also includes manga, music, drama and other things such as games, merchandise, etc.

Many Millennials have grown up being entertained at some point in their life by this Media we call Anime, although they may not have realised it. If you've ever watched Dragon Ball Z, Pokemon or Sailor Moon, then 'Congratulations!'. You've been exposed to at least a small part of the world of anime. For many people Anime and the things relating to it are a great form of entertainment, sometimes even an escape from their everyday lives and what life brings with it.

(Tuan, Y.)"The relations of space and place. In experience, the meaning of space often merges with that of place. "Space" is more abstract than "place." What begins as undifferentiated space becomes place as we get to know it better and endow it with value."
The site also includes a forum. that allows users to discuss topics both relevant and irrelevant to the sites general content. Giving them a space to share and discuss their thoughts and feel comfortable, allowing them to develop their 'space' allowing them to discuss any issues that arise both publicly in their area, country or whatever, as well as in their private lives and personal interests - if they so choose. With people that they can relate to and have something in common with, it makes it easier for some people to open up and perhaps even feel some freedom to share what's on their minds.

(Dan Schawbel, 2009 Me 2.0 p.143) "Social networks are websites that connect people virtually. In this day and age, if you aren't active on social networks, you are in danger of being 'out of the loop'."
I think this holds quite true even now, in our current society. Regardless of where you go to find out what's happening in the world, whether it be Facebook, Twitter or even Crunchyroll (though the latter may not have many smaller stories circulating), you can connect with other people all over, both locally and foreign - which can bring an element of excitement to it, getting to talk with people from places you're not familiar with or may not have even heard of before.

The following link will take you to an article that goes more in depth about the idea of space and place for those who would be interested in getting a little more information on the topic, feel free to have a gander.

Bonus link to a youtube video titled "My Safe Space [Aniventure 2016]". Enjoy or don't.

  1. I'll be honest, I don't know what I was doing. So I'm skeptical that I did what I was meant to.
